‘When Christians seek reconciliation among themselves it is never an end in itself; it is also not about achieving greater human striking power. It is solely about reconciled Christians becoming the yeast of freedom and trust among the whole human family, for believers and non-believers. […] We all know that Europe has many zones of indifference towards belief and there are many churches where there are no young people. Yet around the world there are so many signs of selflessness that have made an impact on the lives of many adults, youth and even children. Through them we can sense that we are stepping out of a time of fear and mistrust and that a time of trust and kindheartedness is being initiated.’
